Bernadine E. Emig, 93, passed away Wednesday, May 23rd, in Abilene. She was born March 6, 1919 in Hope, Kansas, the daughter of James Henry and Goldie June (Frost) Stants. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1935 and worked for the Farmers Bank until 1936. She worked for the United Telephone Company until she was married to Orville Dean Emig on February 1, 1941.

Bernadine worked for the Commercial Bank until Orville joined the Navy and followed him throughout his training until he was shipped overseas. She returned to Abilene and worked at the Farmers Bank until Orville returned from the service. After raising her children, she returned to work for the United Telephone Company in 1961 and later worked for the Citizens Bank until her retirement in 1986.

Bernadine spent her retirement years traveling with Orville and her children. She was a lifelong member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Faith Circle. She was also active in the Extension Homemakers Unit of the Kansas Extension Office.

Her husband, Orville, preceded her in death January 26, 1996. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Verda Rader-Lauxman and Theodora Livingston.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, May 31st, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church with Rev. R. Laney Kuhn officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Danner Funeral Home.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials in her name be made to the Hospice of Dickinson County or the Abilene First United Methodist Church. They may be left at the Church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
